SPEECH THERAPY FOR ARTICULATION AND LANGUAGE DISORDERS.
Linda Gunn Speech Therapy Services
I am an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist (ASHA #12047812). I received my undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and my master of science degree in Speech/Language Pathology at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. One of the first courses I took at UNL was the Introduction to Communication Disorders. Not only did I receive an overview of different types of communication disorders, but I also realized how exciting speech therapy is, and the powerful impact for good that speech therapy can have on the individual who needs speech therapy. I fell in love with the speech therapy profession during that course, and my passion has only grown over the years as I have witnessed first-hand the benefits of speech therapy. I am persistent in my search for the specific technique that helps a person, whatever his or her age, to succeed in the goals that have been set. If I discover that the approach I am using is not enabling a person to succeed, I change to a technique that will.
I have given speech therapy to individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, articulation disorders, and expressive and receptive language disorders; however, I have particular expertise in /r/ remediation. I created a method to aid individuals from ages five on up to gain mastery over the phoneme /r/. A phoneme is the smallest meaningful sound in the English language, and /r/ is one of the most challenging phonemes to master. The particular technique that I have developed in speech therapy has been successful in treating 99% of those who have come to me for help.
I also include phonemic awareness activities as part of speech therapy services. The individual with a strong background in phonemic awareness has the greatest chance for success in reading.
Thank you for visiting my web page. It will be my pleasure to help you or your loved one.
